Perfect Hotel, Beautiful Location, Welcoming staff, Tasty food. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and relaxed. Lovely atmosphere, spotlessly clean and fresh. Rooms are gorgeous, very spacious, private and luxurious, beautiful crisp linen, soft towels, teas and coffees, hot chocolate and biscuits in your room. Gorgeous views out of every window. Dinner was very lightly crisp battered cod, chunky chips, petit peas, tartar sauce and lemon. Slept extremely well on fluffy pillows and morning, toast, orange juice, granola, yoghurts, freshly baked pastries followed by full English breakfast, including black pudding.
Nothing is too much trouble, both children and dogs are welcomed. There is so much space to spread out you feel totally relaxed and pampered whilst staying at this wonderful hotel.
The location is just stunning - set apart in some of Exmoor's most spectacular scenery. There are dramatic walks - including to the sea - right out of the large back garden. It's a lovely old building which retains much of its character as a stylish 19th century resort hotel. The building (we were told) belongs to the National Trust, and is leased to the current management. That's reflected in the decor and stying of the interior, which is a high quality renovation that respects the building's heritage. Our room was one of the cheapest in the hotel, yet was very comfortable and well presented (perhaps we'll treat ourselves to one of the larger rooms next time) and it seemed excellent value in comparison with other places to stay in the area. Some older reviews are critical of the food, but the new management (who at the time of writing have only been there for a few weeks) are getting it just right, in my view. The evening menu centred around a good variety of very reasonably-priced pub fare, and the dishes we chose were both great. Breakfast was excellent too. On top of all that, we received an extremely warm and friendly welcome. We had an outstandingly enjoyable stay, and will be back.
Me and 4 of my fluffy pals (along with a group of people) visited for the weekend to celebrate one of our favourite human's birthdays. I was quite rightly treated like a queen throughout my stay. We particularly enjoyed the live peacock entertainment and thanks for all the bar treats - these were a delicious added bone-us. Wagging tails for all. I award the Hunter's Inn a coveted 5 paws!
